Many people see community as their right, and when God does not provide the sort of community they expect they consider themselves defrauded by Him.
The truth is that community is a responsibility. In order to accomplish our Kingdom work, we will have to have a strong functional community. And that community must be built with fierce intentionality.
Wanting to be in community is not an adequate qualifying characteristic. The wise community builder has to consider people’s design and their journey, the nature of the task and the purpose for which community is being built.
In the Holy Communion service, we looked at God’s ability to build community with some very flawed people. The challenge for us is to see the treasures in the flawed people, not just their deficits.
